Preparation of Microsection Samples and Microscopy
The optimal material composition of fiber-plastic composite structures (FRP) is essential for the use in vehicle construction and aerospace, among other areas. For the development of novel semi-finished and finished products, microscopy is the first decisive indicator for the quality of semi-finished products and the future components.
By microscopy of embedded, ground and polished specimens, new material combinations are qualitatively evaluated.
The semi-automatic microprocessor-controlled grinding and polishing device Tegramin-30 from Struers is used for the preparation of grinding samples from FRP structures. Precise preparation of the specimens is of decisive importance for microscopy.
The Smartzoom 5 microscope system from Carl Zeiss Microscopy GmbH allows the determination of the degree of impregnation and defects in semi-finished products and components. This analysis method is ideally suited to validate the process parameters in the manufacturing process of organic sheets.
Fields of application:
- Analysis of the impregnation quality of test samples
- Validation of material qualities from the pressing process in order to draw conclusions very quickly on suitable processing parameters
- Analysis of the fiber volume content of the FKV under investigation.
Both systems can be used flexibly for thermoset and thermoplastic material systems.
